Calculating set-in sleeves

Calculating set-in sleeves

I have come across a couple of good articles on the calculation of set-in sleeves ... your know, the shaped ones that fit so well around your shoulders). So I have decided that I am not going to reinvent the wheel.

I’ll list them at the end of this article, though, here is a summary of what is involved

  • First, you knit the arm up to the point where it meets the body.
  • The rest of the arm is shaped like a bell.
  • The “straight up” length of this bell is important. Too long or too short will get you a result that just doesn't fit right.
  • The “outside length” of the bell is also important as it needs to be just a little bit longer than the 'hole' in the body where you will eventually sew it in. 7% to about 12% works well.
For those of you who like/love math, have fun. It is a lovely task and gives your brain a good workout.

Good articles on calculations ...

Best of luck,
