About

In the beginning

Launched as a place for hand knitters with a desire to knit just the right garment, this site assists knitters, like you, to use your creative side, and to find a knitting pattern for just about any sweater.

For which knitters?

You know in your head what it should look line, but can't find the knitting pattern anywhere.

You need a deep neckline to show off that mad necklace.

That yarn you bought ages ago, peeping out of the bag at you, and asking "What will I be? What will your knit?".

Why can't every knitter in the world have the exact same tension gauge?

Doesn't every pattern designer know that MY body shape is perfect?

It should be easy

This site is designed to be easy to use. This means picture-driven wherever possible & standard knitting options which can be altered. Oh boy, knitting patterns turned out to be much more complicated than I had ever imagined!

This is me, Martina Walsh

The first thing I remember knitting was a pink balaclava. I was in third class so I must have been about 8 years old. Three years later, I knitted a bright yellow sleeveless top for our end-of-year fashion show. My mum did stay up late the night before, putting some finishing touches to it!

My career, or should I say my first career, was as a Software Developer. Followed by a stint as a full time mum. Followed by "what the heck will I do next?".

Tossing ideas and concepts around in my head, I decided to combine my hobby of knitting, my skills in I.T., and a new bust of enthusiasm.  So, I created Knit Anything to help us knitters get the the knitting pattern that we really want.

Now, I am proud to say that I have created the vast majority of KnitAnything and I just love the new skills that I have acquired along the way - Digital Marketing, Marketing, design, advertising, writing, photography, video editing ... and lots of technical stuff like UX, SEO, OO. I had a stand at Woollinn yarn show and at Yarnfolk. Heck, did I ever think that I would be hosting a stand at the Knitting and Stitching show in London - and giving a deep talk at the Creative Living Theatre!

How about you? Whatever life-stage you are at yourself, and if you are thinking of making a change, my advice is to do it. Either get a big investor and hire a team, OR, do like I did and do it with baby steps. Keep learning. Listen to Podcasts. Take lots of short courses. Keep asking people questions - to a wide mix of age groups.

It's going great so far!
